Because He Came

Because Christ came, so long ago,
Leaving Heaven for this earth's woe,
Proving that He loved us so,
Our God can now His mercy show –
Because He came!

Because He came, men saw the Light!
Their hearts were evil in God's sight,
But shunning wrong and doing right
Required the Holy Spirit's Might –
So Jesus came!

Because He came to earth from Heaven,
Eternal life to men is given;
His Blood the Temple veil has riven,
And all our sins can be forgiven –
That's why He came!

Because He came to me one day
And I so sweetly heard Him say
"May I come in your heart and stay?"
I gladly let Him have His way –
And then He came!

Because He came, my life is blessed,
For guilt and fears are laid to rest.
He helps me through each fiery test,
My spirit is by His possessed –
Praise God He came!
