Emmanuel – God With Man

Not as Creator in Eden,
Nor thunder on Mount Sinai,
But as a human Baby,
In Bethlehem God drew nigh.

Not through an angry prophet
God's Message was relayed;
Love's Ultimate Example
Was in a Manger laid.

The Word made flesh, revealing
Concern of God sublime,
Providing full salvation
To all, and for all time.

So, in the form of Jesus,
A Man, yet truly God,
Our Saviour, pure and holy,
The paths of earth once trod.

Then, as a Man He suffered
To save us from disgrace;
Now interceding for us
At the Throne of Grace.

He brought the light and presence
Of a Holy God to dwell
With sinful human beings,
Our Lord, Emmanuel.

And still He is among us –
As God's all-gracious plan;
Where He's allowed in human hearts,
Our God is still with man.

Not as a Judge, condemning
Our failure or our sin,
But as a Friend and Saviour,
He wants to live within.

What comfort and assurance
This knowledge blessed can be –
That Jesus will stay with us
Through all Eternity!
