He Became Poor
II Cor. 8:9From Heaven's rich abundance
To the poverty of earth,
The Son of God submitted
To a humble human birth.
Destitute and homeless
He became that hour,
Shedding all His glory,
But not His mighty power!
But why would God Almighty
Vacate a glorious throne,
Make a personal appearance
To be among His own,
So that we who were such paupers,
In poverty and need,
Might share His great abundance
And be truly rich indeed?
Not just because He pitied
Our plight from up above,
But because of deep compassion
From His heart of giving love.
He wants to be beneficent
And lavishly impart
His great gift of salvation
To every needy heart.
Praise God for all His blessings,
The riches of His grace,
Which He bestows abundantly
On all who seek His face!
Lord help us each, this Christmas,
Our blessings too, to share,
With hungry, needy spirits,
Around us everywhere.
