Surprises

This is the time of mysteries,
Of secrecy and glee,
When we slink home with hidden gifts
To place beneath the Tree.

What fun to find out what each wants;
We try so hard to please,
And hope it is exactly right
When she opens it and sees.

Have you ever picked a package up
Shaken it to try
And guess; then open it
With a disappointed sigh?

Or have you received a parcel
That looked so plain and small;
With joy you found it was a gift
You didn't expect at all?

Now Jesus was a Gift like that;
A Baby small, you say?
But He was our Great God Himself
Who came that Christmas Day .

And all who will accept Him
In Him find so much joy;
His love is full of Surprises
For every girl and boy!
