Things That Last

Standing at the closing
Of another passing year,
We can look back along the road
We sometimes trod with fear;
For there were things we had to face
That filled our hearts with dread,
Because in our humanity
We can't see what lies ahead.
But we can say with thankfulness,
Though things have changed a lot,
Our God is Love Eternal –
And He changes not!

When listening to the radio
Or the paper we peruse,
One can be shocked and saddened
At each day's tragic news;
For lives are lost, leaders fall,
And nations fume and fret;
But as foundations crumble,
There still remaineth yet,
Unchanged and still unchanging,
The Light which nought can dim –
The Word of God so precious,
Which guides lost men to Him.

Now, looking to the future,
Which the corner hides from view,
Anticipating changes
And experiences new;
Though people change, forsake, or fail,
There is one Faithful Friend
Who'll never leave, but constantly
Remain right to the end
Therefore, with faith and confidence,
Walk close to Him each day,
And Christ, Who lasts forever,
By our side will always stay.
