Tinsellitis
It seems to start earlier every year,An epidemic which we all should fear.
When people catch it, with fever high
They get tunnel vision and an urge to buy.
Some children show a "Give me" attitude,
And are so excitable they are almost rude.
This affliction also affects the ears,
As loud commercials are all that one hears.
Coloured decorations and shimmering lights
Cost a small fortune to brighten our nights.
Gay wrappings and ribbons, cute buttons and bows,
Take much time and effort, as everyone knows.
Another symptom is lust of the eyes
As advertisements appeal to the unwise.
One symptom is the urge to overspend,
On bigger gifts for loved one or friend.
The glamour and glitter do not satisfy,
And to improve this condition can't even try.
To cure this contagion I really believe,
Is to limit the amount we give and receive;
And remember the reason we celebrate,
Is to honour Jesus, whose name is so great!
To return to the Manger, so simple and plain;
To worship our Saviour, humbly again,
To bring Him the gifts that He does deserve,
Our hearts and our wills, to love and to serve.
To pray for His help and to plan without fear
That we'll not be infected again next year.
